Barker is a reporter for AwooNews by day and a crime fighting wolf-spider by night – but that’s a secret, don’t tell anyone! “The Barker Bulletin” will be posted from time to time to keep our regular readers updated about the direction for the site and about big developments for AwooNews. Enjoy!
“How could I have missed that?”
We’ve all experienced it. It happens to me so often – perhaps I find an amazing YouTube video, a new artist to follow, or a fursuit dancer that blows my mind. And then I realize – why didn’t I see this when it came out years earlier?
It amazes me how full of creative, passionate people the furry fandom is – and by the same token, it amazes me how difficult it is for furries to find the best furry art, videos, and writing. Incredible furry work that took dozens of hours to make will often get less than 1000 views – and that needs to change.
What if there was one place to find
all the best of the furry fandom?
The way I see it, despite the growing fandom around furries, despite the growing communication platforms online and despite the conventions growing in size year after year, we still don’t have any centralized place for people to consume this content. As a furry, it’s normal to have three, five, maybe even ten different places around the internet to go to every day to see what’s going on in the furry world. But what if there was one place to use as your hub for all things furry? One source where you can keep up with everything new and exciting in the furry fandom. We think that kind of hub for furry content is sorely needed – and we’ve put together a team to make it happen.
Our vision for AwooNews:
10 minutes a day on our site keeps you up-to-date on everything furry.
The enthusiasm we’ve received from people who wanted to join in on this endeavor from the very beginning is amazing. Dozens of people have joined our volunteer team already, and that number is growing every day: people who want to write, people that want to help organize pictures and videos, and people who want to create content for the site. It’s amazing to see such positive feedback on a website that has only just begun, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this brings us in the future. But enough about us, let me tell you a little more about the Awoo News itself.
We want to give artists a place to post their things and be seen, and a place for fursuiters to put their creations out there and have an easier time reaching out to new clients. A place for Youtubers who want their content to be seen but find that they get ignored by the dreaded Youtube algorithm. We want to give convention runners a place to post updates, news and the various goings on about their various conventions and meetups and reach out to new attendees more easily.
In short, we want to be the homepage for the furry fandom.
Convention runners, in particular, have a rough time: I know how hard it can be to reach out and talk about the various plans that are being put together for a convention. It can be difficult to generate excitement around a new idea or a new announcement when all they have is a twitter account – and of course, that is only being followed by people who are planning on going to the con anyway. We want convention staff to be able to reach out to more people, and we want our readers to have an easier time knowing what conventions are happening and what’s going on at those various conventions.
As Awoo News is starting to leave its “alpha” phases we’re learning from you and others about what you want to see and how you would like to see this website develop. We’re going to be constantly updating it and making the experience for the users better as time goes on and I welcome you on this journey toward having a more coherent fandom as a whole.
Visiting AwooNews.com is the easiest way to see all the latest in furry. Please consider bookmarking us and making us a part of your daily routine.
