Artist Spotlight: Basch

Basch is an amazing artist.  His favorite animals to draw a are fantastic illustrations of lions.

If you’re interested in following his work you can do so on Furaffinity or Twitter.

This is the first commission to put in practice an art style I’ve been practicing for years now.

How did you become a furry?

In a podcast show I used to hear, I heard them mocking furries and I never heard of it before.  So I looked it up to get my own impression of it and ended up finding a comic called “Motion of the Ocean” by Fluke and the entire “Better Days” comic series from Jay Naylor. Those two were enough to disregard the critiques and I saw the work and talent that gets put into it.  Afterwards I found on YouTube fursuiter called “Kijani Lion” and before I knew it I was already making a character and joining a forum!

This is one of my favorites, I had SOOO much fun with the background!

How did you decide what species your fursona would be?

Well I love lions and felines in general so it was kind of an easy decision but there was other contestants that almost made the cut! I was almost a regular cat or an owl.

Some of my old art still holds up (3-4 years old by now).

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Well I’ve been inspired since Day 1 to this day by TairuPanda, AluminemSiren and Null-Ghost.  They are by far the most that have influenced in my art style.

What’s your favorite part of what you do in furry?

My favorite part is by far the people I’ve come to met and the support my work gets from the community, even in the early days when I couldn’t draw two lines together. Without them I couldn’t be living off what I love doing and it got me off the worst years of my life.

What are your upcoming projects?

Incoming projects…I got too many, but the closest one that I’ll do as soon as I’m free are Comic series.  I got like 5 different storylines in the air waiting impatiently to be drawn.

What advice would you give someone who wants to create in the furry fandom?

If you are just getting into the world of art the best advice I can give you is to not feel frustrated when you find so many mistakes in your work, ’cause if you keep finding mistakes it means you are improving. Also constantly flip your canvas horizontally, it does wonders.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Do what makes you happy, don’t let the hate towards the community stop you from having fun. It changed my life for the better and I can only hope it will do the same for you.
