“ANTHRO” is a first-person story written in the perspective of Ray, an ex-human amnesiac thrust into a whole new world 300 years into the future. While under cryogenic sleep, a team of furry scientists and doctors discovered his frozen state and brought him aboard the A.N.T.H.R.O. (Amalgam Neurological Treatment Hospital and Research Organization), a huge spaceship and crew working towards reviving long-lost or comatose life.
The twist: He’s now an anthro wolf, and he’s gonna have to adapt to a new body and new life if he wants to preserve whatever’s left of “normal”. But what became of his old life? What about Earth? Could he ever have the choice to go back?
As of this week’s publishing, there are currently 21 chapters available to read and download, and the story is still going! Each upload is followed by a prompt or art piece that inspired the chapter, like “automatic” or “cyberpunk”. Because I’m an inspiring writer, it’s wonderful to see such creativity come to life from something so simple.
Within the story comes about a feeling of empathy for Ray; his struggles and desires for humanity conflicting with his environment are believable, his difficulty to adapt on the fly make for memorable consequences with the other characters- it all just wants you to engage with everything! It’s easy in our fandom to say they’d want his life, to be a furry and live a brand new life, but it’s nice to read a story where the protagonist isn’t ready to just simply discard a past life from the get-go, even when suffering from amnesia.
The author of this wondrous series, Hunter, explained his interest in writing began when high school teachers and peers praised his professional writing again and again between essays and even simple emails. In college, he even had a good standing among his peers.
“When it came to the [furry] community, I started off as a simple watcher, but soon wanted to contribute in any way I could, and therefore decided to write stories. I found joy in creating fantasy settings and novels and my natural desire to put in as much detail and create imagery seemed to heighten my joy in writing as well as the peer review of my works from those who watch me and even from friends.”
He also explained how much he loved to write. “Writing to me is a relaxing hobby, something I can sit back, listen to some light music and just escape. I am always daydreaming ideas and plots for stories, and even individual scenes, piecing together the puzzle to create a masterpiece.” Many of our fellow artists of all styles can probably relate.

Alright, so we have a good look about ANTHRO and we have an understanding about our featured fellow, but what else is there? Surely there’s more, and you can bet your tail(s) there is! Maybe chapters aren’t your thing; you’d rather read a short story without traveling the site for the beloved conclusion to wrap everything up. Hunter’s got you covered, one story being “Rekindled Memories”.http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25250377/
In an exclusive brief interview with Hunter, he shared this warming story as one of his favorites. “This story hits home emotionally” he explained. “…as it’s a very personal and touching story… not only for me as it’s based on my own personal possessions and inspired by real life; but also for my readers who could relate… This story was an emotionally inspired one that left me with a lump in my throat but also a warm heart…”
He explained it was an early creation to his Thursday Prompts, but the feelings he poured into his story was made very clear even then. While we’re living life constantly stressed out with work, health, future endeavors, and other such worries, it’s nice to once in a while be reminded of sentimental memories we hold dear we thought were long forgotten.
Need something a bit less bubbly and feel-good? Hunter creates a variety of stories, as demonstrated with “Ruin”.

Another short story piece showing off the dangers of imbalance and lack of harmony pertaining to survival in a post-apocalyptic setting. What impressions are left when civilization is destroyed and all that matters is fighting for yourself just to survive. Where morals can be asked but cannot touch the desperation of being ‘top dog’ that follows. “[…] just the way I described the scenery and what happens during the course of the story creates vivid imagery and a very realistic setting. It is one of the few stories of mine that I love the most that is mature for its violent nature.”
